have you ever been punched... really hard?
of course
& how do you survive that?
if you can't avoid someone's fist, you try to move with it.
if you just stand there like a wall, you're gonna get knocked out.
good advice to follow...

RATS!! -- I am running out of online time.... I will do the link to exteriority as soon as I can... sorry!!
moving along with the fist reminds me of the taoist philosophy I'm reading.
Instead of trying to command the current, we would do much better to build a raft and be carried along.
I like how your words convey trajectory, and even the idea that we can mitigate violence with a certain grace...
flow with it somehow and you'll be better off. Interesting.
strange advice to give...
but yes...
good advice to follow...
MOVE
AVOID
FIST
It is not so much whether you take or avoid the fist that matters, it is what you do next that counts.
great advice and great reflections...
the walking man's point was exactly what came to my mind when i imagined i'm punched or managed to avoid it...
i take that
FIST...
kiss it to release the
tension...
caress it to alleviate the
pain...
hold it tight to my heart to deliver it from
sin...
thus transforming it into a
HAND...
Jon- I like the " reduction" to the essential words... I bet there are many such three word combos in there...
Hb and Walking man- I will reflect on the possibilities ... perhaps my own lack of inner resources in the lived moment of violence has made me colder than I need to be...
I've been punched... really hard ... more times than I care to remember, so this is also a lesson for me in listening and learning...
Derliwall-- there is a lovely verse in the Tao about stepping out the way ...giving evil nothing to lean up against...
I will find it!-- nice reminder
In some places, like the one I live in, the next response does not include Tao or Buddha, Christ or Allah.
The next response is the destroyer, Shiva. Knife meets fist, gun meets knife. Fist meets pavement.
yes, indeed... I get that, too....
